Your first movie (sort of): Cars 3

Dear Matthew

Last Saturday we took you to your first movie - Cars 3. You have always loved watching Lightning McQueen in the first two Cars movies when we played them on tv at home so I had high hopes that you would enjoy this one, and thought it would be a nice little outing as a family of three before your sibling arrives in a few weeks time.

Unfortunately your dad was right and you just weren't quite ready to sit through a movie yet. I think the noise and the darkness of the cinema was a bit overwhelming and after asking to leave for about the fifth time we relented and left. Oh well - we made it about a quarter of the way through!!

Hopefully when it's released on DVD we can all enjoy it together at home :)

At least you had fun playing with your dad in the games area beforehand and your mum got to enjoy a much-craved for chop top!

Love you gorgeous boy,

Nanna's birthday

Dear Matthew

Last Saturday we celebrated your nanna’s birthday by heading to the Core Cider House in Pickering Brook. We had never been there before and (although we missed the apple picking that had finished the month before) it was lovely to be in the hills surrounded by the fruit orchards.

You are four of your cousins had a great time playing on the play equipment and especially enjoyed ‘riding’ the tractor. For lunch you and your cousins had ‘loaded fries’ (yummy chips covered in pulled pork and cheese), your dad had a pork curry with apple sauce and I had a delicious pulled pork cheeseburger. Your dad and nanna also tried some of the ciders made on the premises. Needless to say we all left with full bellies and fresh country air in our lungs. It was a lovely way to celebrate nanna’s birthday and hopefully we can come back next year during apple picking season.

Love you beautiful boy,

Sicknesses galore

Dear Matthew

Unfortunately over the last two or three weeks we have been dealing with ongoing illnesses in our little household. First you copped it with gastro for a few days and then developed this terrible cough. Your dad and I eventually also developed the same cough and so at one point were all home sick, and coincidentally the power company were doing maintenance on the same day so we had no electricity for heating (or tv for distracting you!). Luckily you were just fine and managed to build a cubby around your daddy (see photos below - spot his knees!). You've now also developed a little cold/flu with a rash on your face, we even had to leave a Mother's Group catch up after 45 minutes as you were so unwell and usually you are desperate to catch up with Charlotte.

Needless to say we've spent a lot of time on the couch these last few weeks watching your favourite shows - Paw Patrol, Go Jetters, Blaze and the Monster Machines, Octonauts etc and planning your birthday party. Luckily you've been a real cuddle bug and it's actually been enjoyable spending this time with you, especially because it won't be long before your sibling comes along and cuddles with just the two of us are going to be harder to find.

Love you my little sickling,

P.S. I also couldn't help but include these gorgeous photos of you and your daddy twinning it up :)

Ma Ma's home and our weekend exploring

Dear Matthew

Last Thursday we went to the airport for you to see the planes and to pick up Ma Ma, who had been away in Singapore and Bali for ten days to celebrate Aunty Julie's 60th birthday. You enjoyed looking at the planes with Gramps and then we met Ma Ma at the arrivals gate and, safe to say from the photos, she missed you a lot!

We also had a lovely weekend taking Soda out to a little dog-friendly coffee shop in Bicton and then heading down to the Attadale foreshore for a play with the other dogs. We walked along the end of the river and your dad pointed out the birdlife while you pointed out the tigers, lions and elephants along the way (love your imagination FYI).

We also took a bit of a bushwalk and afterwards you had fun jumping in the big muddy puddle. It was a lovely winters morning, and Soda was exhausted afterwards :)

Love you baby boy,
