A farm and a bandicoot at the playground

Dear Matthew, Toby and Josie

As you will soon be starting daycare Josie, as your Ma Ma and Gumps are stopping babysitting to go travelling, I have been trying to make the most of our days together to do fun things. We recently went to Lansdale Farm with a friend from playgroup and you absolutely loved seeing all the farm animals, riding on the tractor train and playing on the playgrounds. You especially loved the pigs (and almost got your hand bitten off by one) and the guinea pigs and rabbits that you got to touch in the petting shed. You know all the sounds that farm animals make and love telling me each of them when I ask you. It was so much 😊

We also went down to our local playground (which is epic) and you enjoyed playing on all the equipment and in the sand, and you also loved the local bandicoot who was jumping around inside the gate! It was very tame and just eating scraps off the floor and reminded me a lot of the quokkas at Rottnest. The weather is starting to become a bit cooler and it’s been wonderful to get outside without worrying about being burnt!

Hopefully we can keep spending these special days together over the next few months before you’re in daycare a few days a week. I’m looking forward it them!

Gymnastic wrap up, gingerbread, a hospital visit and a cute sleeping baby

 

Dear Matthew, Toby and Josie

We’ve had a busy last few weeks, good and bad. Both you boys finished term one of gymnastics. Matt, you got your best results every in ninja gymnastics and I am so proud at how well you are developing your skills. Tobes, you have absolutely loved your first term of gymnastics after all the free play sessions that we would do at Jungle Gym last year and come alive during the sessions that we do together on Saturday mornings. It is such a joy to see your delight (even if that delight can be very loud sometimes haha!). You have also been making gingerbread with your daddy and loved decorating the gingerbread men in all sorts of different icing and toppings.

Tobes, unfortunately you had to take another trip to ‘your hospital’ when you came down with croup after a couple of days of coughing. We woke up at about 5am and could hear you sounding like a seal and new instantly that steroids were needed so off you went. You didn’t seem bothered – you are a frequent visitor there now after all! Josie you then came down with the same cough (not as bad luckily) a few days later, and when Ma Ma was looking after you, you ended up falling asleep on her stairs! So cute but you must have been absolutely exhausted.

Luckily you’re all in great health again now, and looking forward to the school holidays coming up!

Matt's first swimming carnival

Dear Matthew, Toby and Josie

As you are now in year four Matt, this year was the first year you were invited to take part in the swimming carnival at school. You opted to go in the 25m races for freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. You were a bit nervous, but we talked about how we can both be nervous and do the 'hard thing' that makes us nervous in the first place. So on the day of the swimming carnival we talked about just trying your best and having fun in the process. 

Well! You absolutely killed it! You came first in both freestyle and breaststroke, and second in backstroke. Your dad was able to watch you while I was at work, and I was over the moon to hear about how you went in each race!! You have recently stopped formal swimming lessons because you weren't too keen on them anymore, and now that we have our own pool, we were happy to let them go, but I was worried about what that might mean for your swimming progress - but I've got nothing at all to worry about, clearly! And no doubt you will only get stronger and faster with each summer in our pool. 

Congratulations on conquering your fears Matt- just look at what can happen when we dare to be uncomfortable for a moment! Absolute rockstar!

P.S. Tobes your swimming has absolutely come along too, you are no longer wearing your swimming floaty in the pool and asking daddy to take you in every evening. Josie, well, you won't even enter the pool area haha! But hopefully you'll come around. You love baths so I know you're fine with water, I think it's just the fact that the pool is such a massive puddle in the backyard, I guess it's a bit daunting!
