Irritable Hip Syndrome Strikes!

Dear Matthew

Last Monday I took you to the doctor as you had been limping for around a week and I couldn't figure out why. I couldn't see anything in your foot and although you didn't seem to be in pain as you would normally say 'hurting, hurting' if something was painful, we thought it best to take you just in case.

However I was still surprised when during the appointment your doctor mentioned that due to the length of time that had past since you had started limping, there may be an infection that was eating away at your hip joint so told me to rush you to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children right away. I was in a bit of shock as I didn't expect to be rushing you to the ER just for a limp but off we went, picking up your dad from the city on the way as it was the end of the day.

When we arrived at the ER luckily there wasn't much of a wait and we were seen by a doctor who recommended a blood test and x-rays. 5 hours later we had been given the all clear and told to come back in 3 days if you were still limping so they could investigate further but that it was likely to just be irritable hip syndrome that would go away on its own. Luckily 2.5 days later you were barely limping anymore so we haven't taken you back.

I have to add that I am just so grateful that we have a happy, healthy little boy. The little boy in the bed next to you at PMH was blind, could not communicate, had been admitted to hospital three times in the last fortnight and had experienced bouts of pneumonia, asthma attacks and chest infections recently. And yet his dad showed such grace, such kindness to each and every person he spoke to, whereas I was rude to the nurse and doctor who administered your blood test (which was hell on earth) and yanked you back away from them as soon as I could. I was inspired to show more gratitude for the wonderful life we lead and to practice the same humility that the dad of the sick little boy next to us showed. If you ever feel like you're ripped off in life, just visit the ER at PMH. You will feel like a king compared to how hard some other people have it.

We are beyond lucky my darling boy.

Love you and I'm so happy you're fine,

Waiting for the blood test results- watching Peppa Pig of course!

We always manage to get room/bed 13! This time it was very lucky :)

Thankfully I packed some books from the car last minute to help keep you entertained.

Wiggly fun!!

Dear Matthew

Last Saturday we went and saw The Wiggles! Your nanna came with us and it was held at Perth Arena. I think I was the most excited out of the three of us. And although I tried to pump you up... I think it was just a little overwhelming for you (there were thousands of screaming kids all around you so you're off the hook). You spent most of the show sitting on my lap looking mightily unimpressed (see photo below!). Maybe next year we will have more luck! At least I know you're not put off The Wiggles for life as you still enjoy dancing along with them when you watch them at home :)

Love,

Sunday Funday

Dear Matthew

A couple of weekends ago we decided to head out to the local markets in Beaconsfield that we always seems to drive past but never have a chance to drop into. You enjoyed visiting the animals in the animal farm and we happened to bump into my friend's Bree and Dan with their kids Olivia and Archie (who we regularly visit for playdates).

We invited them down to the Dome in Port Coogee which was where we were headed next. They joined us after we'd had our breaky there in the ocean near by. There is a small man made inlet which is just perfect for little kids and you all splashed in the water there. We will definitely be returning as it's so secure and pristine.

It was a beautiful day and I'm so glad you're such a go with the flow toddler, jumping into every situation and loving every moment of it.

Love you buddy,

A few things we've been up to!

Dear Matthew

We've had quite a social life lately! Below are a few extra things we've been up to!

Recently either before or after your swimming classes we've been going into the kids play area at Fremantle Aquatic and you have absolutely loved it. You are so confident in the water and going on the slides- it is so lovely to watch. Plus it's fun :)

We also went to morning tea at my boss's house where you proceeded to climb into her dog's sleeping cage. You crack me up! But it was lovely to catch up with other mums of only boys, as it seems we are generally surrounded by girls, especially at mothers group! You really enjoyed exploring the garden, looking in the fish pond and playing with trucks with the other boys.

We've also continued to catch up with your grandad and Maree after swimming classes at the Fremantle Arts Centre. You love running around and it's a great area as it's shaded and secure. See below for another example of your craziness. I think Soda's antics are rubbing off on you!

As you can see we've been having a lot of fun! I love the age you're at right now- we are beginning to do more and more exciting things :)

Love,

Some new friends

Dear Matthew

In the last month or so we have met some of your new friends! Your dad's cousin Lea introduced us to her little boy Jack (great name!), my friend Alysia introduced us to her little boy Samuel and Charlotte from mother's group became a big sister when her mum Hayley gave birth to Alice (who unfortunately I don't think I have a photo of). Anyway, it has been a big month of meeting your future playmates! It is always special when friends and family create new life and even more special when I know you are going to have a future bond with these little people.

You have also been very good when I have held the babies and not shown much jealousy at all. I can just tell that you are going to be an amazing big brother one day. We promise you will get your own sibling in the next couple of years, we are just busy enjoying you at the moment :)

Love,

Mum xxx

P.S. The final photo below shows you hugging Lea's oldest, Ruby, as we were saying goodbye although it turned into a tumble when you both lost your footings. SO cute!
