Sleepover at Nanna's and the Royal Show

Dear Matthew and Toby

Another fun thing that you got to do during the school holidays Matt was go for a sleepover at Nanna and Darryl's house with your cousin Harry. As you can see from the photos below, you were super pumped! We got text updates during the evening that the both of you were enjoying sleeping in the tent Darryl had set up for you.

In the morning you were lucky enough to also visit the Royal Show with nanna and all of your cousins. From memory you had only been to the show one other time when you were a toddler with your dad (and covered him with animal poo from the exhibits!) but this time you got to go on rides and buy showbags. I would always get so excited choosing showbags as a kid (my cousins and I would pour over the showbag guide that came in the paper for weeks before the show, trying to decide how we would spend our designated $10). You even got to stay and enjoy the firework display, so you weren't home until quite late. It was the longest you'd been away from home and we missed you so much but am so glad you had a great time! Tobes I think you had a great time having one-on-one time with Ma Ma and Gumps then your parents that day too!

Love you both,

Penguin Island

Dear Matthew and Toby

During the school holidays we decided to take a day trip to Penguin Island. Your dad and I have lived in Perth all our lives and yet we had never been before. So we headed off nice and early and made our way down to Shoalwater. We hopped on the ferry and about five minutes later we had arrived on Penguin Island.

I think in my mind I had pictured a mini Rottnest Island, with penguins everywhere, but it was nothing like that! The island had a Penguin Conservation Centre, where 10 penguins who had been rescued for one reason or another were being kept, and we watched them being fed and learnt about what they did in the wild, which you both enjoyed.

We walked around the island for a while and saw many seagulls and a pelican nesting area (it was huge!). We had lunch in the grassed area while enjoying the beautiful view and then went to the beach to build sandcastles and run along the water's edge.

It was a beautiful family day out and fun exploring our own back yard!

Love you boys,
