Your baptism

Dear Matthew

Last Sunday was your baptism. We held it at St Thomas More Catholic Church in Bateman, followed by afternoon tea back home. 

When we arrived at the church you hadn't slept or about two and a half hours so promptly fell asleep in Gramps' arms and didn't wake up until the holy water was poured all over you (luckily at that point you just startled but didn't cry, such a good baby). 

It was a lovely little service lead by Father Phillip, and very lucky that you were the only baby being baptised at that time. 

Afterwards we headed back home with everyone for afternoon tea. We were so lucky that the weather was only about 28 degrees, given every day for at least the past month has been 30+ degrees (and closer to 40 than 30). 

Your godparents are Aunty Bec and Uncle Dan, two of your mum and dads very good friends. 

It was a wonderful day and wonderful to be able to celebrate you with our closest family and friends.

You're on a roll...

Dear Matthew,

On Friday 6 February 2014, you rolled over all by yourself. After a few days of assistance from your mum on your play mat, you perfected your technique of, while on your back, lifting both legs up, twisting them to the side you wanted to roll towards, then using that momentum to twist the rest of your body over until you were on your tummy. 

I was so proud of you, especially because the child health nurse had gotten us a little worried about your fine motor skills (which are just fine) so it was good to know your development in terms of being on the move was right on track.

The next morning you rolled over six times in a row for your dad and he was super impressed. 12 days later and I can't lie you down on your back without you getting annoyed and rolling over onto your tummy. 

Well done baby boy :)

Daddy's little boy

Dear Matthew

Well, there's no mistaking it- you are your daddy's spitting image! We found this photo of your dad when he was a bub and compared it to ones we have of you and you could be twins! 

We were also at your Nannas house on the weekend and were going through old albums, looking at photos of your dad and aunty Chantel and it allowed me to see what you could look like at age one and beyond- such a surreal experience!

Know that I am also a part of you- you have my fingers and fingernails :)

Parents and Babies Group

Dear Matthew

Since you were about 4 weeks old I have been attending a Parents and Babies Group. It involves 6 sessions at the local community centre where a midwife discusses baby issues and then the parents meet up on their own afterwards (we meet every Thursday mornig for an hour or so). It was initially tough to get out of the house without your dad to help but I'm so glad I percervered (looking back it wasn't actually that hard, I was just a bit overwhelmed as the experience was new to me) as the mums and dads have been a great support system for me. It's also been wonderful to make new friends (which is something I use to find hard but realised that if I just put myself out there, it's very rewarding). 

We now attend gymbaroo with a number of the parents and bubs on Mondays, swimming lessons on Saturdays and will hopefully make it to Rhyme Time on Tuesdays soon.
