The difference a day makes

Dear Matthew

Today when we were playing together in your room, you were playing with your colourful shapes jigsaw puzzle, and you put all the pieces back where they belonged, perfectly first time. You could recognise their spots based on the shape and colour without any prompting from me. I was so excited and dumbfounded. Pretty sure we did the same activity yesterday with no such success. Just goes to show how quickly your brain is developing!! It's just amazing to watch.

Your language has also exploded yet again, my guess would be that you have 65-70 words that you can use in context. Today you learnt 'boat' and surprised me by pointing at the stars and saying 'stars!' very clearly (gramps had taught you that one apparently).

You also tell us all about what you can see when we're driving in the car: 'Bus! Truck! Car!'  You also like the fact that there's three houses being built around our house at the moment as it means you have lots of exposure to diggers, bob cats, cement mixers etc and love watching the garbage truck come past every Thursday morning. You also love sitting in the front seat of our car (and that of each of your grandparents) and 'driving' it, while making lots of broom brooming noises.

My guess is you like machines- maybe you'll be an engineer? A mechanic? A construction worker? We'll just have to wait and see won't we :)

Love you my machine boy,

Kisses from my baby boy

Dear Matthew

Today you learnt how to give your dad a kiss. It was so lovely, and in typical toddler fashion it was mouth open and very slobbery but beautiful nonetheless. You then gave your mum one, and a big cuddle (with your 'cu-ggle' commentary). And my heart melted.

Sweet child, you are such a blessing. Thank you for being so loving, so incredibly happy and confident. Every day is a delight with you.

How lucky are we, that you were chosen for us.

Love you,

Let's go camping!

Dear Matthew

Last weekend we headed up to Jurien Bay for our first camping trip as a family, including Soda. Your nanna and Darryl, as well as nan and grandad headed up to as Darryl was going to skydive (he had been given it as a gift from his kids for his 50th).

You were great in the car on the way up (even though your naughty parents forgot to change your nappy before we left so you soaked through) and Soda didn't make a peep. Once we arrived at the tourist park we set up the tent under Darryl's expert supervision and chilled out for the rest of the afternoon at nan and grandad's chalet, eating fresh watermelon which you devoured.

For dinner we had a barbeque and you jumped on the giant inflated balloon at the park. After dinner we listened to a crazy old man 'sing' and play guitar before passing out on the air mattress.

In the morning we packed down the tent, went to the beach for a bit where we met up with Darryl"s kids and then watched Darryl jump out of a plane. You were so exhausted from a crazy two days you slept the whole way home and then another hour on the couch once we'd arrived home (with your face on a bocce ball, go figure).

It was a lovely weekend and a great introduction to camping for us with a toddler. Will definitely be doing it again sometime soon. You are the best bub to travel with, so easy going and just love every new experience.

Love you darling,

Mum xxx
