Your first passport

Dear Matthew

Last week we also organised your passport as we are heading to Singapore next year - and just look at how cute you are in the photo! It took a few tries at the post office to get one that would likely be accepted but you did a great job and now our passports have been lodged and will hopefully be ready soon so that we'll be all set for our big trip next year!

I can't believe you have your own passport and am really looking forward to travelling with you and your future sibling/s throughout your childhoods to expand your minds, allow you to experience other cultures and develop a sense of compassion and understanding of how others live (and to be grateful for the amazing county in which we live). I have travelled to around twenty countries and despite spending a huge amount of money on this it is not something I ever regret because there is nothing like leaving your comfort zone and experiencing what the world has to offer. It just takes a little bit of courage, planning and patience.

Looking forward to jet-setting with you monkey.

Love,

Your second birthday!

Dear Matthew

Last Thursday you turned two! I am so in love with you and the amazing little person you are. You are so loving, easy going and fun that it makes my heart burst with pride to think that I get to be your mum. I am so grateful that you were chosen for us and that I get to watch you grown up and be a big part of your life. I am forever in debt to the universe for you, my darling child.

Luckily I have the morning off on Thursdays so got to watch you discover that your sandpit contained your present from your mum and dad first thing in the morning - your digger! Your dad had been up till midnight putting it together (it wasn't that hard, it's just that his indoor cricket game didn't start until 9:30 so it was always going to be a late one for him) and we'd written you a birthday message in the pit (because you could obviously read it). You went straight to it and now, after a couple of days, you are an old pro at it. I can't believe how quickly you have mastered it, you amaze us every day.

We then headed off to gymbakids for our morning class because you spent the arvo with Ma Ma (grandma) until your dad picked you up (as I had gone to work). In the evening I brought you home a cupcake from work and your dad and I sung you happy birthday. You concentrated so hard on the candle blowing- it was so gorgeous to watch!

We hope you had a lovely actual birthday and have been told by friends that next year you'll actually know what a birthday is so I'm already excited to celebrate it with you!!

Love you my perfect two year old (can't believe how quickly this time has flewn!),

Your birthday party

Dear Matthew

The weekend before your birthday we had a picnic at the Dr Seuss park in Melville with our closest family members. It was only afterwards that I realised we actually had four generations on each side of the family there so should have grabbed the opportunity to get a photo with everyone- hindsight is a wonderful thing. Anyway we had a lovely time celebrating our your second birthday and you enjoyed having a dozen or so doting family members playing with you and showering you with presents.

kept my promise and made your digger cake (I found an excellent blog to follow for instructions) and as I had it ready a day early in the fridge, I showed it to you and you kept saying 'Wow! Digger! In the fridge! With rocks (chocolate covered sultanas)!' It was so beautiful watching your reaction and it's further spurred me on to up the anti for next year's cake! Although you'll see from the photos you weren't too impressed when people were singing happy birthday to you- the look on your face is priceless!!

I'm glad you had a lovely day my gorgeous baby boy- you ended up sleeping for about three hours that afternoon so I know you must have had a good time!!

Love you to the moon and back,

Mum xxx
