Family time and starting soccer

Dear Matthew and Toby

A few weeks back we decided to take advantage of the beautiful Autumn day we were having and went down to Point Walter for a lazy afternoon by the water. It could not have been more perfect weather wise, in fact the whole of Autumn was unseasonably warm (which has been amazing as Toby you are obviously still young and the less colds/flus etc you catch the better). We had a little picnic on the shore and Matt you enjoyed digging in the sand, playing in the water and collecting shells. You also went on the jetty with your dad. Toby, you had a great time sitting on the sand and walking in the water with me. It was also the first time we'd driven you in your big boy forward facing car seat and it's been a winner in improving your attitude towards the car (yay!). I love how clean it looks it the top photo- it's since been trashed :)

Matt, you also started playing soccer at the start of this term. Given you have also been doing swimming lessons this year I was worried that you would be overloaded with activities (given you go to kindy three days a week too, and you're only four), but you kept hounding us so we signed you up to Grasshopper Soccer. You have loved going down to 'training' on a Saturday morning and doing the exercises with your 'team' and daddy (although sometimes need a bit of help taking turns during the 'game' at the end). It's been awesome to see your confidence build over the last year or so, you really have blossomed and I hope you stick at soccer, as it's a sport both your mum and dad enjoy (but only if you like it, of course). I love that you're getting used to listening to your coach and getting to know what it would be like being in a team. These are really important life skills so I'm glad you clearly enjoy sport so you won't miss out on developing them.

Love you boys,

Mother's Day

Dear Matthew and Toby

This year for Mother's Day we started the day in the same way we did last year by having breakfast at Point Walter CafĂ©. Unfortunately nanna was sick so she and Darryl didn't join us but Aunty Chantel, Andrew and your cousins did. Matt, you had a lovely time playing on the playground with them all and then on the jetty and edge of the river afterwards. I loved the pancakes you and I shared and the moment when Harry sneezed which resulted in him then having to have his undies changed by Aunty Chantel!

In the evening we had Ma Ma, Gumps, Aunty Robyn and Kieran over for dinner at our place. We had a roast and Matt, as you had seen your dad pick rosemary to season the lamb, you decided to also pick some to decorate the plates with (and have subsequently asked to do this again at Sunday night dinners). It was a delicious dinner and we gave Ma Ma a strawberry pot with plants in it that you'd helped me plant earlier in the week (ask your dad to tell you the story of how he finally got his hands on that strawberry pot for a good laugh). You had also chosen matching socks with a strawberry design on them.

It was a great day and I felt so lucky to have all my boys spoiling me.

Love you both,

Mother's Day school events

Dear Matthew and Toby

In the lead up to Mother's Day this year we attended couple of events run at Matt's school.

The first one was the 'pamper morning' held in your kindy classroom, Matt. Your wonderful teachers organised a few different tables at which the kindy kids could spoil their mums. You painted my nails and applied my eye shadow (somehow I ended up with four eyebrows but you can see from the photos that you took it very seriously) and decorated a flower for me. It was such a cute experience and you were so proud (as was I). When I went to pick you up you gave me a present you'd made (a decorated star holding some smelly salts), a picture you'd drawn of me and a questionnaire you'd filled out about me (see picture below). I particularly loved the questionnaire, as you obviously have been paying attention to what I like (and I think I clearly watch How I Met Your Mother a bit too much!).

The day before Mother's Day we went back to your school for a few hours for the 'Around the World' event. There was of course a blow up obstacle course which you loved and when I raced you on it you became so competitive - you had to beat me!! There were also various stalls set up which had activities at them from particular countries. You enjoyed getting a henna tattoo and attempting some origami at the Asian stand, and decorating my handprint at the Australian stand.

It was so nice to spend this time with you Matt, sometimes it's hard now as Toby is still very little and needs lots of my attention but I hope as he grows older you and I can spend more one-on-one time together like we used to.

Love you beautiful boys,
