Saffy's birthday

Dear Matthew and Toby

We recently celebrated your cousin Saffy's birthday at your aunty Chantel's house. Saffy is such a kind and caring older cousin to you both (as are our other older cousins) and we are all very lucky to have her in our lives.

You both had a great time playing with all your cousins and we had a yummy cooked breakfast all together. We then sang happy birthday and enjoyed the yummy ice cream cake. Tobes, as you can see from the photo below - the ice cream cake was a very important aspect of the morning for you, with much concentration on making sure you got some! It was a great, relaxing morning and we hung around while you both played happily for hours.

Love you both,

Time with Toby

Dear Matthew and Toby

Unfortunately for our little family, we have been sick for a while with coughs and colds that don't want to disappear. This has meant that my boss has banned me from coming into work for a while. The plus side of this is that during the week I've had more of an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with you Tobes.

A lot of our days when Matt is at school are often just filled pottering around the house, doing chores like the laundry together and 'weeding' the back grass. As the weather has gotten cooler, we've often spent a good portion of the mornings just sitting on the grass in the sunshine warming up, playing with Soda and Pepper and looking for worms that have popped out of the ground.

Recently I decided to use one of my forced sick days to take you to the zoo. It was nice to spend the time walking around seeing all your favourite animals. In particular we spent heaps of time looking at the tiger, which was walking all around its enclosure and super close to the glass so you could really see it. Check out the great photos below I got of you watching him!

We've also been spending a bit more time at your grandparents house to allow me to get some rest. You've loved 'lawnmowing' the front yard (and that of the neighbours') with your toy lawnmower and doing some gardening with Gumps.

It's been very good for the soul to have this time together and I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have. I know you won't be little for too many more years and I'm trying to savour all our special time together while you're still my baby boy.

Love you both,

Mum xxx

The leaves are 'ere!

Dear Matthew and Toby

Being May, it was time for your annual leaves photos in Ma Ma and Gump's front yard!

This year was way easier than last year, with you both being relatively happy to lie down in the leaves and have your photos taken, and I was grateful to have it done within about five minutes and with zero tears (albeit with a few complaints still). You are both growing so quickly but I'm so happy we started this tradition so that I can see you change as the seasons also change.

We also did a few nice family things over the weekend. We took a lovely walk up to our usual playground at Morris Buzzacott and on the way back I took the photos of you below Tobes, sitting in 'the bush' as we call it (which is really just the block across the street from us). On Sunday evening we went to Maccas for an ice-cream (and I quickly crammed for a test I had the next day for my Masters) and you both had another play in its playground there too. You're both at such great ages and it's wonderful that it's getting easier and easier to do things with you.

Love you boys,

Mother's Day 2019

Dear Matthew and Toby

For Mother's Day this year we started with our traditional breakfast with your nanna and your dad's side of the family at Point Walter. You had yummy pancakes and milkshakes and enjoyed playing on the playground nearby.

Afterwards we headed down to the riverbank and you both enjoyed playing with your cousins. Tobes, as one point you were almost completely submerged underwater, and luckily your cousin Ella was nearby so I called out and scooped you up, but that's why in the photos below you're just in a nappy and hat!

In the afternoon we visited your great-nanna for afternoon tea. Nan has dementia now unfortunately but it was lovely to visit her and catch up with your dad's aunty and uncle who happened to stop by then too. You boys enjoyed playing with the toys at your great-grandparents house and happily wandered around their garden.

In the evening my side of the family came over and we had a lovely dinner celebrating Ma Ma. It was a wonderful day celebrating all the mothers in our lives and I know you're both so lucky to be surrounded by such caring, compassionate women.

Love you boys,

Mum xxx
